BRACES FOR ALL AGES

Kids

It's best for the orthodontist to see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required and the best time for that patient to be treated. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time, and crossbites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated. When treatment is begun early, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.

Adults

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Jaw surgery is more often required for adult orthodontic patients because their jaws are not growing. Adults also may have experienced some breakdown or loss of their teeth and bone that supports the teeth and may require periodontal treatment before, during and/or after orthodontic treatment. Bone loss can also limit the amount and direction of tooth movement that is advisable.

New techniques and materials used by the orthodontic specialty today have greatly reduced the discomfort of wearing braces, decreased the frequency of office visits and reduced overall treatment time. You probably want to know if braces will interfere with your lifestyle. Absolutely not! You can do anything with braces on. Transparent Sapphire (Ceramic) braces, Invisible (Lingual) braces, and Invisalign are just three of these newer methods to fit braces into your lifestyle. A consultation with an orthodontic specialist is the best way to determine if you can benefit from treatment.

TYPES OF BRACES

Metal Braces, Clear Braces, Invisalign®, and Invisible Lingual Braces/Colored Braces

Our new, state of the art, self-ligating metal braces are more comfortable to wear, require fewer and shorter more comfortable appointment visits, and reduce the total treatment time in many patients. They have a patented built-in sliding clip that holds the main wire lightly with very low resistance. These low friction orthodontic brackets in conjunction with our special heat activated (activated at body temperature) and non-deformable super elastic wires slide the teeth into their desired position more quickly with less pressure, more comfort, and with excellent and faster treatment results.

Besides conventional metal braces, we also offer a new system of cosmetically appealing appliances that offer an attractive incentive for appearance conscious patients. These are clear or transparent braces, invisible or lingual braces, and, as seen on TV, the new Invisalign System.

Transparent braces are of the new ceramic or sapphire type. Nothing we know of - not coffee, not tea, nor tobacco - will stain or discolor them. Transparent braces are placed on the front surfaces of the teeth and allow the orthodontist to use his regular conventional methods of aligning teeth without increasing total treatment time.

Lingual braces, also called invisible braces, are specialized appliances placed on the inside or tongue side of the teeth. They allow the orthodontist to move teeth in a similar manner to the way treatment is carried out with conventional braces. They may not be called for in all cases and they may also be used in conjunction with other types of appliances to achieve a great new smile. Your orthodontist will be able to decide if they are right for you.

INVISALIGN®

Designer Fashion Braces! Dare to be Different?

In addition to our invisible, transparent, and conventional metal braces, we now offer braces in color for our more adventurous patients. Mix or match the colors any way you wish. All colors are available including neon. The choice is yours!

TREATMENT OF GROWTH PROBLEMS (ORTHOPEDICS)

Growth or skeletal problems can often be corrected in a child with the use of various growth regulating appliances and orthopedic headgears. These appliances are designed to change the direction of growth or speed up or slow down growth of the jaws. By doing this, the orthodontist can achieve a better skeletal balance between the upper and lower jaws. This will result in better dental function and esthetics and better facial balance and appearance. Treatment success usually depends on beginning treatment of these problems at a very early age so as much growth potential as possible can be utilized. If treatment is delayed, most skeletal malocclusion's can only be corrected with a combined orthodontic and surgical treatment.

SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS

When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you wish you had a more attractive smile? A better balanced face? An improved profile? Then why not make a change for the better? Unlike the clothes and shoes you buy to improve your appearance, a new smile or improved facial esthetics will last for the rest of your life.

Surgical orthodontics is usually performed after age 18. Children with skeletal problems can sometimes be corrected by early treatment during active growth stages and therefore avoid the need for surgical treatment. Because an adult's facial bones are no longer growing, certain corrections cannot be accomplished with braces alone. But don't let that discourage you. Very dramatic facial changes are now being achieved with a combined approach of surgery and orthodontics.

The recognition and treatment of skeletal deformities by the orthodontist has become more scientific during the past several years.

New surgical procedures enable the orthodontist and oral surgeon to work together to correct dentofacial deformities, which were until recently not correctable.

It is the role of the orthodontist to work with the oral surgeon to correct facial and dental deformities associated with skeletal imbalance. Most often, the "team" is capable of creating tremendous changes in facial and dental appearance.

Should you require or know anyone who would benefit from this type of treatment, we will be pleased to explain the procedure to you.

SURGICAL AND NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT FOR SNORING AND OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA

BREATHE EASY - Besides possible surgical correction, it has been found that most patients suffering from sleep-disordered breathing can benefit from non-invasive oral appliance therapy. These removable appliances of different designs, have been shown to be consistently effective in treating severe apnea patients. A simple diagnostic appointment would be necessary for us to determine if such treatment would be right for you.
